Realization: Shooting Day One

Today I helped work on a film--something I haven't done in like five effing years! I was basically a grip and script supervisor. The producer got my name thru MySpace and shot me an Email asking if I could spare some time, due to my experience with Road Dog Productions. It was so much fun to get back in that creative groove again. Today was the first day of shooting and only one scene was shot. The location was set at someone's loft and the setup was quite professional. I met some great people and will name their first names here as an exercise to help remember them:

Producer, Dave; Director, Sam; DP, Phil; Sound, Brian; Grips, Robbie, Rolondo & Spencer; Actors, James & Brian. I believe that was it for today. It was a small set.

I'll update daily, as I'll be working on the film throughout it'd duration.

mp3-pack Disclaimer

The mp3-pack will feature music that I've recently crawled and like. The music could be brand-spankin' new or really damn old. Either way, it will typically be music that is available for sampling purposes and approved by the respective artists. Links are not guranteed, as they will be taken from third-party websites. Because of this, I ask that you not stream the music over and over, but instead, directly download the file. If you are an artist who wishes that your music not be available for download, please contact the website that I link from. I will gladly remove the link if you Email me. If you are a third-party website that I link to and wish to be removed, please also Email me. Feel free to leave positive or negative comments concerning said music.

"We Blow Our Clients...away." I took this picture in Deep Ellum (downtown Dallas) with my buddy David. Posted by Picasa

Oh, did I mention I went to the final Chicago Cubs game and that during the bottom of the ninth they were down by one with the bases loaded and STILL managed to lose? Yeah, that sucked. Posted by Picasa

The Interpreter

This is supposed to be just another intelligent thriller. But it's something totally different. The philosophy rests in a pseudo-African tradition where a family who's lost a loved one from the hand of another, must make a decision that would effect them for the rest of their lives. The killer is weighed down and thrust into a river, and the family is left to decide whether or not he drowns. If they let him drown, then they have their justice, but are destined to mourn for the rest of their lives; but if they save him, they are free to move on. It's a beautiful sentiment, and one that remains thematic throughout the entire experience of this film. The actors are real--very rigid and genuine. Sean Penn is stellar in his portrayal of a man who's lost so much, so quickly and yet, gains insight into himself and reality as he meets a lovely girl, who lost her parents to the tyrant who was supposed to liberate her country. This film was so unlike any thriller with romantic connotations that I've ever seen. Absolutely rivoting and had me crying on many occasions. I almost wish I had some awful experience in my life, so as to guage whether or not I'd let the fucker drown. I'd like to say that I would, but deep inside, I'm shocked and dismayed that I'd ever share that.
